Making simple syrup, and flavored syrups, is quite simple.
Basic Simple Syrup:
1 cup water
¾+ cup sugar
Bring water to boil. Dissolve the sugar. Let cool.
For honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and simple syrup. Bring to a boil, and cool.
To enhance the simple syrup with flavors, try adding one of the following:
- 1 cup chopped mint
- ½ cup chopped rosemary
- ⅓ cup dried lavender flowers (just the flowers, not the full bud)
For flavored syrups, simmer the herb in the water for 20 min. Let it steep for 1 hour. Bring back to a boil and dissolve the sugar. Strain using a coffee filter. Store in the refrigerator.
